We're getting close to the end of the year, and we're also getting close to the halfway point on this countdown of the Top Philadelphia Athletes of All Time.  Just like the rest of this list, the athletes listed here are some of the best that the city of Philadelphia has ever seen.  So, sit back and enjoy the next ten entries.

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Athletes of All Time: #70-61

So, about that whole posting more often thing...work has not been the most helpful when it comes to actually getting time to update anything, let alone write up a post about Philadelphia sports.  Add into that the bad news that has hit Philadelphia sports since my last set of postings, and you can understand I haven't exactly been that motivated to write about anything Philadelphia sports related at this point.  Anyway, this list is getting closer to the half-way point, so here we go again.

Hurka Does Booze: Presidential Election Results Drinking Game

It's been a long, long election season now, and the votes have almost all been cast, and it's time to find out a winner.  You know what that means...you can drink to that!

I've got a few Presidential Election Results Drinking Game rules, so if you want to have a good time tonight while watching the results come in, here you go!

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Athletes of All Time: #80-71

Someone do me a favor and remind me to post updates on this list more than once a month, could you please?  Seriously though, I know it's been a while again, but life just hasn't been all that accommodating, what with the hurricane and work and what not.  Plus, the Eagles have been horrible lately, and the last thing that I've wanted to do is think about that team any more.  Regardless, let's get this started again with numbers 80 through 71.

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Athletes of All Time: #90-81

Ok, so it's been a little while since I last posted an update to this list.  Work, coupled with the start of football season/end of baseball season has left me with little time for updating on here, but that's hopefully going to change with today's post.  We continue the list of top Philadelphia Athletes with our next ten members.  Let's get started.

Hurka Does Booze: Drinking Football

The NFL season is just about to start, and while there are plenty of Giants and Cowboys fans out there getting ready for this game tonight, there are more football fans that are looking for a reason to enjoy the game.  That's where Drinking Football comes in.

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Athletes of All Time: #100-91

With the NFL season starting tonight, there's no better time to get this list started.  Despite the lack of championships in Philadelphia in my lifetime, there have been some tremendous athletes that have come through this city.  Ever since the Phillies started playing baseball back in 1883, fans have had their favorite players and have debated who is the best.  This list is here to help answer that.  It's not a perfect science, but it's here for you to look over and debate as well.  With that, let's get started.  It's going to be a fun ride.

We have a winner!

The votes have been cast, and I've got my next topic to write about.  I had a feeling that this topic would win, considering most of the people that read this are Philadelphia sports fans.  With that in mind, I will be writing about the Top 100 Philadelphia Sports Athletes of all Time.

Now, there are a couple of ground rules that I'm going to lay down right now, so if you have any issues with my list, refer back to this post to see why I'm doing what I'm doing.

First of all, this is going to be a list of professional athletes from the four main teams that are in Philadelphia today.  That means there will be no college athletes or members of the Philadelphia Athletics on this list.  There were some that could have been put on here if I had gone that route, but I decided against it.  My list, my rules.

Second, when it comes to the Phillies and their over 100 year history, it was a little bit tougher.  When it came down to it, I left off just about every player before 1900 and I only have a few on the list from before baseball was integrated.  There's a few reasons for that.  The game of baseball changed so much after integration that the numbers before 1947 aren't necessarily the most accurate.  The other thing is that the Phillies weren't that good before the Whiz Kids came around back in 1950.  Don't expect too many pre-1950s Phillies to be on this list.

Finally, there are some athletes that you might think should be on this list that won't be.  I'm going to get some honorable mentions out of the way right now.  Here are some athletes that you won't see on the list.

What do you want to see me post next?

Alright, it's late on a Friday morning, I may have had a few beers to drink and the Sixers may or may not have traded for Andrew Bynum, but I want to ask all of the people that check my blog out a question.

What should I write about next?

I've got all kinds of different options available to me, all of them being entertaining.  I'm leaving it up to you, in a two week poll, to tell me what you want to see.  I'll update before that with different things, and if there is a runaway winner, I'll go with that choice.  Here's what I have as options right now.

UFC Events: I have every UFC Pay Per View ever.  I'm not joking.  I can watch them all and break them down as only I can.

Old School WWE Events: Likewise, I also have a collection of the "Big 4" WWE events.  If you want to read my recaps on those, vote there.

Rewatches of Hell's Kitchen: Probably my favorite reality show.  Nothing beats a British man cursing at Americans that can't cook.  I'd start from season one and go from there.

Rewatch of an old TV Show: If it's Lost, 24, something along those lines, then I'll have no problem.  Something too complicated, then there might be a problem.

Long Running Reality Show Rewatch: I'm thinking Survivor here.  It's 20 something seasons long.  Please, don't make me write that much.  It'll take me three years.  You can if you want to, though.

Another Top 100 List: The next one would be Top 100 Philadelphia Sports Athletes.  I'm not sure if it would be during my lifetime or all time.  I would work with that.

So there you go, those are your choices.  There's a poll over ----------->>>>  in that general direction, so please vote!  I want to know what you want to see next!!

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Sports Moments in the Last 28 Years: #10-1

Real life just came up and smacked us all in the mouth, didn't it?  I was just about to finish this list yesterday when the news broke about Andy Reid's son passing away.  I'm not going to comment that much on it, save for my condolences to the Reid family, but I would like to say one thing.  Philadelphia, for all of the knocks and negative stories that come out, knows how to come together and support someone who is going through a terrible moment in their life.  There is nothing that can even come close to losing your first born son, and I don't know that feeling, but the words and respect shown by Philadelphia fans to the Reid family has been amazing.  It's what makes this city and us as fans so great.  We may question calls by coaches and managers, we may boo you until we can't talk any more, but when the chips are down, there's no one else I would want to have on my side.

I'm always proud to be a Philadelphia sports fan, and while the last 48 hours have been horrible for the Eagles and the Reid family, the fans, myself included, will be there with our love and support for our coach.  He's been here 14 years, we've seen his kids grow up here.  To lose one of them, no matter the circumstances, is horrible.  Coach Reid, you and your family have my support and condolences, and the support, condolences and prayers of every Philadelphia fan around the country and the world, I'm sure.

With that, let's move on to the final moments that have made being a Philadelphia sports fan so great.

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Sports Moments in the Last 28 Years: #20-11

What a bittersweet day in Philadelphia sports.  The Phillies officially became sellers at the trade deadline, sending Hunter Pence to San Francisco and Shane Victorino to the Dodgers.  It's a shame, because Victorino was one of the few players remaining from that 2008 World Series team, and he made his mark with two of the top 20 moments on this list.  Which two are they?  Read on to find out.

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Sports Moments in the Last 28 Years: #30-21

Since everyone has Olympic fever right now, I guess the Phillies getting swept by the Braves isn't as bad, right?  Of course, I'm only joking.  The Phillies have been depressing this season, but let's look back at some more good moments and forget about this year's team.  We're getting close to the top now, and these moments are certainly some of the best that I can remember.

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Sports Moments in the Last 28 Years: #40-31

Man, after last night's come from behind win by the Phillies, you had a feeling that things might be turning around for sports in Philadelphia this summer.  Not so much today.  The news hasn't been great in the last 12 hours or so, but it's time to look back at a few moments where things were going more towards Philadelphia sports teams.

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Sports Moments in the Last 28 Years: #50-41

Not going to lie: watching the Giants get late runs against the Phillies this weekend brought back some bad memories from the 2010 NLCS.  Let's wash that bitter taste away with the next ten Philadelphia sports moments.

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Sports Moments in the Last 28 Years: #60-51

We're nearing the halfway point on the Top 100, and there's no shortage of great moments left to go.  We're going to be exploring another ten right here, right now, so let's get things started with moment number 60, shall we?

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Sports Moments in the Last 28 Years: #70-61

After a few days to digest everything that the Sixers have done and watch the Phillies lose yet another game, I'm back with the next installment of my Top 100 list.  Fittingly enough, one of the moments coming up involves the starting pitcher for the Phillies last night.  Which moment was it?  Read on to find out.

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Sports Moments in the Last 28 Years: #80-71

Happy post MLB All Star Game!  It was nice seeing Papelbon and Chooch finishing things off for the National League this year, but it sucks to know that unless the Phillies play just about perfect in the second half of the season, it won't mean a thing.  That's one of those moments that I wouldn't put on a list like this, because of the fact that the Phillies are having such a bad year.  What moments did make this section?  Read on and see.

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Sports Moments in the Last 28 Years: #90-81

We're on to the second round of this 100 moment list with ten more entries.  These ten feature a little bit of everything from all four major sports teams in Philadelphia.

Hurka Does Sports: Top 100 Philadelphia Sports Moments in the Last 28 Years: #100-91

Welcome everyone to the first official post of my new blog here.  Yes, it's going to be about Philadelphia sports, but this isn't going to be about what the Sixers and Flyers have or haven't done during the offseason, or the Eagles getting ready for the preseason, or the disaster that has been the Phillies this year.  Instead, I'm counting down the top 100 Philadelphia sports moments of the past 28 years.  Why the past 28 years?  Because I was born in 1984, 28 years ago.  So sit back, relax and enjoy the list.  The descriptions will get longer the further up we get.

Welcome my friends, to the show that never ends

I just want to take a little bit of time to welcome everyone to this little corner of the internet.  For those of you that haven't read my stuff before, I tend to be a little on the sarcastic side, but when I'm saying something, there's a reason for it.  I've written a blog before, but it was only focused on Philadelphia sports.  Philly sports is still my passion, but I'm going to be writing about more than that on here. Some of the things that I'll be writing about are:

  • TV Shows (both current and re-watches of old shows)
  • Movies
  • MMA (primarily UFC, but possibly more if I can)
  • God awful made for TV movies that air on SyFy
  • Old WWE events (because I can, dammit).
  • Philadelphia sports, of course
  • Anything else I feel like posting about.  It's my blog.
So that's what's on tap for around here.  All I can do is write and ask you all to sit back and enjoy the ride.  Coming up first, I'll be counting down the top 100 Philadelphia sports moments from June 22, 1984 until today.  Why that date?  That's when I was born.
